After being shut down “indefinitely” at the start of April, the National Firefighter Registry for Cancer could soon be operational again. The registry is considered by many to be one of the largest and most promising efforts to further understand cancer risks among firefighters, including wildland firefighters.
Public media stations — including KUNR — are at risk of losing critical federal funding, and we are incredibly grateful for the support of our listeners and community for speaking up on behalf of the station and public media ecosystem, as well as contributing to our financial future.

One person was killed in an avalanche at Lake Tahoe’s largest ski resort, Palisades Tahoe, on Jan. 10, 2024. National data shows, over the past decade, an average of 25 people died in avalanches each winter. -
